Junior Championships, 2022
What a perfect weekend of junior tennis at the club. Starting on Saturday afternoon with our budding 8&U Red Ball players, we witnessed competition at its finest amongst our younger players – Incredible rallies and excellent camaraderie throughout the event. Congratulations to Lara Dobbie and Hector Turner for an exhibition final to wow the audience! Our Open (18&U) events followed with the Waite family taking control of the junior section – Evie Waite taking the title after an epic final vs. Lauren Hall and Euan Waite not dropping a game in all five of his round-robin games, with Niyo Hatari second. Today, we witnessed the remaining six events. Oliver Radcliffe set the bar high in the Green Ball (10&U) singles. He started a rivalry with Luke Wilson, culminating in Oliver and Luke maintaining their positions in the 12&U boys singles after hard-fought lengthy matches. Oskar Allfrey was victorious in our Orange Ball 9&U event, with Greta Blades providing strong firepower. Alexa Johnson was crowned 12&U girls champion in a strong girls field, with Abi Halliwell securing second place. Alexa went on to compete against yesterday’s Open girls singles Evie Waite, in the 14&U girls singles, with Evie winning in close sets. Our 14&U boys went on over the heat of the day and William Elson was formidable remaining undefeated, with Niyo Hatari again taking second place. It is fabulous to watch our junior players throughout the weekend. It is clear to see the hard work and dedication the children have put in resulting in the superb level of tennis on display. Thank you so much to all of the amazing parents who helped cheer each other’s children on and provided support and encouragement throughout. Thank you also to everyone who provided delicious snacks and cakes throughout the weekend. I can’t wait to talk about the children’s experience in the lessons next week and talk about everything they learnt about the events.
