Play, compete, improve
If you enjoy playing matches, testing your game and competing alongside other members, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in competitive tennis at Reigate Priory.
We have a busy programme of men’s, women’s and mixed team tennis, as well as junior competition, club leagues, tournaments and regular match practice. Teams compete at different levels, so competitive tennis isn’t just for the strongest players at the club.
Whether you’re an experienced league player, returning to competitive tennis after a break or keen to play your first competitive match, there are ways to get involved.
Representing RPLTC
RPLTC teams compete throughout the year in a range of Surrey and national competitions, including the Wilson Surrey League, Chaucer League, Surrey Youth League & National League and Surrey Mixed Team Knockout.
Our competitive programme offers opportunities for players across a range of ages and standards, from junior players taking their first steps into team tennis to experienced adults representing the club in league competition.
Team tennis is about more than the result. It’s a chance to challenge yourself, improve your match play, meet other members and enjoy being part of a team.
Team tennis and training
Our teams play fixtures against other clubs throughout the season, with matches usually consisting of singles and doubles depending on the competition.
Teams compete at different standards, and selection takes account of playing standard, recent results, availability and the requirements of each team.
We also offer regular team tennis training for our men’s, women’s and mixed teams. These sessions give players the opportunity to work on their technical skills, doubles tactics and match strategy while preparing for competitive fixtures.
If you’re interested in playing for RPLTC, you don’t need to wait until you’re already playing at team level. Speaking to our head coach, Russell, or our club captain is a great way to find out what opportunities might suit you.
Junior competitive tennis
Competitive tennis is an important part of our junior programme too.
RPLTC fields teams in the Surrey Youth League & National League, giving young players the opportunity to represent the club, play competitive matches and develop their game in a team environment.
For juniors who enjoy competition, team tennis provides valuable experience of playing matches, developing tactics and learning how to compete as part of a team.
Our aim is to give young players opportunities to progress at their own pace — whether they’re taking their first steps into competitive tennis or already competing regularly at a high level.
Club leagues
You don’t need to join an external team to enjoy competitive tennis at RPLTC.
Our internal singles and doubles leagues give members the opportunity to play regular competitive matches against other club members.
They’re a great way to:
- play more matches
- meet players of a similar standard
- challenge yourself against different opponents
- improve your consistency and match play
- build confidence before playing team tennis
Club leagues are open to a range of playing standards, making them a great starting point if you’re new to competitive tennis.
Club Championships & Tournaments
Our annual Club Championships and other tournaments provide another opportunity to compete for RPLTC.
Competitions include:
- Open Tournament
- Veterans Tournament
- Handicap Tournament
- Singles and doubles events
Whether you’re aiming for the final or simply want to see how you get on, club tournaments are a great way to challenge yourself, meet other competitive players and become more involved in club life.
And competitive tennis doesn’t always have to feel serious. Our tournaments are an important part of the social side of the club too, bringing members together to watch, play and support each other.
Weekly match practice
For players who want more regular match play, we offer weekly match practice sessions for our adult teams.
These sessions provide a relaxed way to play structured matches, work on tactics and gain experience in a competitive environment.
They’re particularly useful if you’re thinking about joining a team for the first time, as well as for established team players looking to sharpen their game ahead of league matches.
Competitive tennis for all levels
At RPLTC, competitive tennis isn’t about having to be an elite player.
It’s about enjoying the challenge of a match, improving your tennis and playing with people who enjoy competition too.
With team tennis, junior competition, club leagues, tournaments and match practice, there are plenty of ways to compete — and plenty of opportunities to progress as your game develops.
