Sunday 10 September saw the 2017 Open Finals. The day was a great success despite frequent rain showers, and by the end of the mixed doubles, heavy rain.
Winner of the men’s singles was defending champion Antony Dean, who beat Tim Austin 6-4 2-6 6-1 in a hard fought encounter.
Meanwhile, the ladies’ singles competition was won by Claire Wiley, who overcame Hilary Austin 6-1 6-4.
In the doubles, the Austin brothers lined up against each other with Tim Austin and Josh Howell beating Elliot Austin and Andy Sanders 6-2 5-7 6-1 to claim the men’s doubles crown while four-times consecutive champions Susie Taylor and Lucy Hamilton saw off the challenge of Karen Tee and Heather Byrne to win in straight sets, 7-6 7-5.
Despite atrocious conditions in the final match, a keenly-fought mixed doubles saw Lucy Hamilton and Andy Sanders beat Karen Tee and Duncan Tullis 6-4 6-3,
